The 4th Lam Woo Distinguished Social Work Awards Presentation Ceremony was held at PKU

On the morning of March 11th, 2016 the 4th Lam Woo Distinguished Social Work Awards Presentation Ceremony was held at PKU Yingjie Communication Center. The ceremony was co-organized by the Lam Woo Social Work Training and Development Fund and Peking University-The Hong Kong Polytechnic University China Social Work Research Center. Professor Yuen-Tsang Woon Ki, the vice president of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, PKU Professor Wang Sibin, the vice director of Social Work Postgraduate Education Guidance Committee and president of China Association for Social Work, Professor Li Yongliang, the director of HKPU Department of Applied Social Sciences, and Professor Zhang Jing, the director of PKU Department of Sociology, were invited to attend the ceremony.

The Lam Woo Foundation has supported the PKU Department of Sociology and HKPU Department of Applied Social Science since the establishment of “Lam Woo Social Work Training and Development Fund in 2009. It has held a number of social work related activities in China Social Work Research Center in response to the manpower needs due to the rapid development of social work.

The 4th Lam Woo Distinguished Social Work Awards Presentation Ceremony began at 10 am. Professor Ma Fengzhi, the project execution of Lam Woo Social Work Training and Development Fund and the director of PKU Department of Sociology MSW Education Center hosted the ceremony. Professor Ma first welcomed the arrival of all the participants and introduced them the Lam Woo Social Work Training and Development Fund.

The ceremony invited Doctor Lin Bonian, the representative of Lam Woo Foundation to give a speech. Doctor Lin expressed his congratulation to the ceremony and reviewed the previous winners of the awards. He then issued the letters of appointment and souvenirs to the winners. The eight review committee members are from the mainland and Hong Kong government departments, sociology and social work education institutions, as well as social work service institutions. Professor Wang Sibin, the chairman of the review committee, introduced the application and selection process of the award, and put forward his hope to provide inspirations for the mainland social work development through the Lam Woo Award.

The ceremony issued a total of four types of award, including social work students, internship projects, service projects and scholar awards. Professor Shi Bonian of China Youth University for Political Sciences, Vice president and Secretary General of China Social Work Education Association was issued the distinguished scholar award. The students Song Xianhua, Huang Mingzhu, Xie Minli and Gaoli won the distinguished social work student award. The awarded four internship projects and two service projects were The Rural Social Work Practice from the Perspective of Empowerment: the Village Le Ming’s Sustainable Living from Group to Community, The City Ya’an’s Post Disaster Whole People’s Health Education for Children, A Community Service Project for Resilience Building and The Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency, etc.

The HKPU Professor Li Yongliang, the director of Department of Applied Social Science gave a speech of encouragement for the winners.

The ceremony spoke highly of the winners and recognized their contribution in the field of social work and the good social benefits they brought. The ceremony also expected them to continue their efforts for the development of social work and the construction of socialist harmonious society.
